Why sustainability at MAN
As a commercial vehicle manufacturer, MAN recognizes its special responsibility to contribute to climate protection. Urgent action is required at all political and social levels, and the economy plays a central role in this fundamental transformation.Climate and environmental protection, social responsibility, and good corporate governance have become increasingly crucial. The EU is also providing clear guidance for companies by introducing additional regulations in the areas of environmental and sustainability monitoring and reporting.
MAN’s vision is to ‘Simplify customer business through leading sustainable solutions.’ In line with this, our aim is to fulfill our social responsibility, and we view sustainability as a key element in maintaining global competitiveness. We also consider this an integral part of our corporate strategy. This ambition is reflected in our purpose: ‘Shaping transportation to serve a prosperous and sustainable society.’
Participation in the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
MAN has joined the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the fight against climate change.
The Science-Based Targets initiative is a collaboration between several environmental protection and non-profit organizations: the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC; MAN joined in 2010), World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It sets a gold standard for companies in terms of greenhouse gas reduction and provides a clearly defined path with concrete requirements and targets to limit CO2 emissions and thus combat climate change.
At MAN, we understand that climate protection, environmental protection, and responsible action regarding sustainability are core elements of successful businesses. Additionally, participation in the SBTi fosters innovation and competitiveness and demonstrates to increasingly environmentally conscious customers how serious MAN is through concrete voluntary commitments. Therefore, sustainability is an important pillar that MAN has embedded in its strategy.
